Div 4 Women – Sunday 9 May 2010.

The Div 4 team meet for their first game of the season against St. Andrews College. The first five to ten minutes of the game Avon certainly took it to the top of the table team. We dominated the circle, had several shots on goal and were certainly not intimidated by the opposition.

Unfortunately STAC took the opportunity of a break away down their left flank and scored, very much against the run of play. However, our Avon girls did not flinch but continued to battle away and were very unlucky not to score on several occasions. Div 4 is an excellent grade to develop the skills of learning how to come back, what to do as a player and the patience that is often required when things aren’t going your way on the field.

The second half was played in much the same tone of the beginning of the first half of the game. The girls’ came out hard, fought for every ball, run and run like little running things. The second was a draw with no goals being scored at all. Well done Alison for listening at half time. The second half ended when the hooter sounded. This is however not the signal that the game is over and although a goal was scored by STAC, because all twenty two players stopped playing the opposition (very sportingly) and the referees did not count it. It was an excellent second half by every player on the field and the score reflected this.

Player of the day – Sarah Morley.

Division 4 Women – Sunday 2 May 2010.

What a game against Cartlon-Redcliffs last night.  The girls worked hard to come away with a 3-2 win against a very determined Carlton team who are yet to register a win.

The score see-sawed and it was an excellent team effort which saw us come away with our second win of the season.  There was a lot of determination from both the defence and the strikers who were supported with a lot of excellent passing and strong tackling by those in the mid-field.

The structure of the team is coming along very nicely and will continue to be our focus throughout the season.  Last night we welcomed Harriet back after an extended break in England due to erupting volcanoes.

Thanks to those who were able to support the Club Trivia night last night and  big congratulations to Anna who won the major raffle prize of a Hot Air Balloon trip for two people, well done Anna we can’t wait to hear the report and see the photos’.
